Canon EOS 1000D Rebel XS
Canon has been known for its line of digital SLR cameras, and recently they have unveiled their best model among its affordable line: the EOS 1000D, also known as the EOS Rebel XS. It features a whopping 10.1 megapixel CMOS sensor, with a 7-point wide area AF system, and up to 3fps of continuous JPEG shooting until the memory card is full.
The key components for the EOS 1000D are designed and manufactured in-house. The CMOS sensor has larger pixels for smooth and low-noise images, as well as having sufficient resolution to produce prints in sizes up to A4. The EOS 1000D also comes with its own Integrated Cleaning System that combats dust by reducing, removing, and repelling in order to protect the images against the effects of sensor dust.
The EOS 1000D has the lightest weight among all digital EOS cameras, but it is packed with a range of technologies used in Canon’s professional EOS-1 series, which includes the DIGIC III image processor and the Live View mode. This camera is available with an EF-S 18-55 IS lens, known for its 4-stop image stabilization that ensures superb performance even in low light.
The DIGIC III image processor, which is also used in Canon’s professional D-SLR models, delivers superior image rendering, rapid operation, and almost instant start-up times. Meanwhile, the Live View mode enables photographers to display the scene as a smooth, 30fps video feed on the LCD.
The 7-point wide area Auto Focus system is capable of locking onto a subject in a fraction of a second. The EOS 1000D also operates effectively even when used in lower-light and lower-contrast settings. Photo quality in every situation is aided by 12 custom functions, including Auto Lighting Optimizer, which corrects brightness and contrast during image processing all while improving skin tones in portraits by ensuring correct exposure for faces.
On the outside, the EOS 1000D has a compact and ergonomic body designed for comfortable handling. It also has a bright 2.5-inch LCD screen that lets users instantly review images for composition, sharpness, and focus. The screen also provides access to a fast and easy-to-read menu system, using tabs in order to avoid unnecessary scrolling. The menu system is similar to the latest EOS models, which also includes direct control over external devices like flash units.

Microsoft Announces New Features for Zune
At about the same time Steve Jobs was introducing the new iPods and iTunes at the Apple Let’s Rock event in San Francisco, the big boys from Seattle released a press statement on their own music player, the Microsoft Zune.
Now I’m not really sure if it would be fair to Microsoft that we’re putting their Zune in an article with with the iPod. Sure they are both music players but the iPod is the iPod and the Zune simply took too long to release that nobody knows about it.
Anyway, a new Zune is coming out with a bunch of new features according to a press release from Microsoft. Oh yes, it’s the second generation of Zunes. This time around, the new Zunes will pack more punch and capabilities than the iPod classic. However, these new toys only measure up to the capabilities of the iPod Touch except for the multi-touch screen.
Moreover, the Zune compensates by adding a feature that Apple deliberately overlooks, FM radio. That’s right, the new Zunes will pack 60GB or 120GB capacity WiFi and FM radio.
"Zune, Microsoft Corp.’s end-to-end music and entertainment service, again revolutionizes how customers discover and connect to the music they love, where and how they want it. Starting next week, every Zune portable media player will let consumers wirelessly download or stream millions of songs on the go from thousands of wireless hot spots around the country. Free, powerful software and firmware updates will give Zune owners the ability to discover, tag and purchase songs directly from the built-in FM radio, wirelessly access the Zune Marketplace store on the go, and tap into interactive, personalized music recommendations that add even more value to the Zune Pass subscription. Zune is also expanding its device lineup with new 16GB and 120GB capacities as well as shiny new blue-on-silver and sleek all-black color schemes. The new features will begin rolling out on Sept. 16, 2008."

Nokia N96 Cell Phone
Nokia N96 is one of the newest phones by Nokia. It has a 2G and 3G Network. It is also pretty much slim with its 103 x 55 x 18 mm, 92 cc sizes and 125 g weight. The memory of the phone is pretty much well done. Phonebook has unlimited entries and fields for photocall. The card slot has microSD (TransFlash) compatible and it is up to 8GB. It has accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate, 16 GB internal memory, 128MB RAM, 256MB storage memory and dual ARM 9 264 Mhz CPU.
Standard feature is still available as always SMS, MMS, Email, Instant Messaging. The browser has WAP 2.0/xHTML, RSS reader. Games are down loadable. What I really like with this new mobile phone really is the camera. 5 MP, 2592 x 1944 with Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus, video (VGA 30 fps), flash and a secondary VGA video call camera. We still do not have any haunch with the price but I would like to add that the batter life is really great too. Stand by last up to 220 hours and 3 hours 40 minutes long when on talk time.

The Best Open Source Gadgets
Open source gadgets mean any software whose source code is made available for use or modification for users or developers.
The advantages of the open source gadgets are evident: since everyone can modify the source they are improved continually by software communities and the vast majority of open source programs are free.
Being free is a huge advantage sometimes you, the computer owner want to do simple, one job, like editing a document or a picture, and you don't want to spend a small fortune doing it, so the free open source programs are your best friends.
The most of the open source gadgets were initially created for Linux owners, but in the last period of time more and more open source gadgets were developed for Windows. And in this article I'm going to tell you about the best gadgets for Windows users.
The free and open-source software that you should use are: web browsing - Mozilla Firefox, video player and video podcasting: Miro, instant messaging: Pidgin, e-mail - Mozilla Thunderbird, RSS: RSSOwl, peer-to-peer filesharing: Cabos, video player - Media Player Classic, DVD ripping and video conversion - Media Coder, word processing suites - OpenOffice.org, podcasting: Juice, sound recording: Audacity, photo editing Paint.NET, FTP - Filezilla.
I'm currently using: OpenOffice.org to write and manage documents, Filezilla for FTP connections, Paint.NET to work with graphics and Thunderbird to read and write emails.
Don't aspect the open source gadgets to have as many features as the paid ones, after all you get them for free.
Well known are the open source Google Desktop Gadgets like: Google-battery (Never lose track of your power. Always tell you how much battery power is left) Google-calculator (Calculator gadget for Google Desktop), Google-cricket-news (Displays cricket news headlines and images), Google-cricket-videos (the same like the previous only it displays videos on your desktop), Google-desktop-sdk (Complete examples of using the Google Desktop Gadget APIs) Google-digital-clock (is one of my favorite desktop gadgets, it is obviously what it does: it shows time, but in a beautiful manner ),Google-flower-pot (It is a Virtual Flower Pot which will grow to full bloom right before your eyes if you give the flowers some water using your mouse like the old Tamagoci games), Google-moon-phase (Displays the moon's current phase) and Google-timezone (Find what the time is in different locations).
For now the most used software's are the paid ones, but the free open source ones come fast from behind. Each day communities of developers work on them for us to have a better experience and free programs.

Gmail for Mobile
Google has joined the field of mobile Web mail with the release of Gmail for mobile devices. You can now access your Gmail account on your mobile. Just download the Gmail mobile Java file at www.gmail.com/app, install the application on your supported device, and you can now retrieve your Gmail inbox with just a push of a button.
Google claims that using the mobile version loads up to five times faster than when accessing Gmail using your phone’s browser. This is because Google optimized the interface of the Gmail application depending on the mobile device used.
Once you start up the application on your mobile, you only need to enter your username and password on the welcome screen and in seconds, your emails start coming in. Browsing through emails is also more efficient, providing less clicks and scrolls than most mobile browser would normally make use of. There is a Menu button which allows you to easily reply, forward, compose mail, search mail, mark mail unread, view details, and conveniently report spam.
You don’t have to worry about mixing up your Gmail account, as it remains synchronized whether you’ll be accessing it from a PC or a mobile phone. For example, if you send an email using a mobile phone, you can also view it at the Sent Items folder on your PC.
Another nifty feature of the Gmail mobile application is that it can open attachments in your email. These include images, word documents, and PDF files. What’s great is that you don’t need a compatible reader installed in your mobile phone to view these files. With sufficient phone memory, Gmail can automatically convert these into a format that suits your mobile. If you have contact numbers on your Gmail Contacts list, you can also reply to their messages by giving a call.
Google’s Gmail for mobile devices is a great application, allowing its users to access their mails and get information, anytime and anywhere. Like the desktop Gmail, the mobile version is also free of charge. But don’t forget to consider charges from your wireless service provider.

![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNDvCaRSG47C4l1v5zNNxneOqtn2Fz0hBejyZQCS_GKyLDDBlf_24Y7ER22LGRpR6MgENW7rAfkAy2Od_NT4u-1VgrE6A9tXTVeDJLMwZmYhs8q4nJdAsP1OFtWce9Pq0NimNRbVxoAw/s400/8100_front.jpg)
Blackberry series of mobile phones are highly popular among business as well as professional users. As a matter of fact, these gadgets are perfect for busy people who need to get their work done - even when they are on the move. The latest from the Blackberry series of mobile phones is the Blackberry Pearl.
The Blackberry Pearl 8100 has been launched in the market as recently as the third quarter of 2006. It is a quad-band GSM mobile phone that comes with some very popular multimedia options. There is an integrated1.3 megapixel digital camera - which is just perfect to make the most of fleeting moments from day-to-day life. One could also enjoy MP3 files or view videos using the in-built media player. With the Blackberry Pearl, quite a lot is possible.
The Blackberry Pearl is not bulky in profile like other handsets from the series. Moreover, it has got quite a few additional features that make it equally popular among fun-loving mobile phone users as well. But, first of all, something about the looks of this innovative handset.
![Blackberry Pearl](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjksI_SzYAKxJYY8CkdkQszUrVolQvLDkfTGowJ_Z6mCHoHbd0MUeRQ61-0Xj7ZZ6bnqK4Xk0cIgqJ-6nAn1TehdSCA3GZsTuzKmiXLbYRrjBA_rsCojFH7QD3cZJbOTUQVDDQhmcZxgw/s400/redpearl.gif)
As is evident from the name, the Blackberry Pearl 8100 is quite the stunner in its looks. It comes within a slick and stylish profile. In addition, the handset is light in weight as compared to other phones from the Blackberry series. There is a roller ball that can swivel 360 degrees which is used to scroll and access the diverse functionalities of the handset. When in use, this 360 degree swivel roller ball glows - a fact that justifies the name 'Pearl' given to the handset.
The handset comes with a QWERTY keyboard that conforms to the standard pattern. A 65,000 colour screen, with a resolution of 240X260 pixels, optimises the viewing experience. With capabilities for email access and high speed data downloads, the Pearl from Blackberry is as good as it can get. With upto 15 days of standby time and 3.5 hours of talk time, the battery life is equally impressive.

Nikon D40 Review
The Nikon D40 is an all new affordable, compact, point-and-shoot digital SLR from Nikon, it follows on from the D50 but at a significantly lower price point and with a subtly different feature set. The biggest news however is probably fact that Nikon resisted the temptation to keep chasing megapixels (hooray for that) and instead appear to have concentrated on what makes a good camera, a decent viewfinder, short shutter lag, very short viewfinder blackout.
The very first thing that you notice in the Nikon d40 review is regarding the weight. Now this is a very light weight camera and is very easy to carry around without the hassles of the bag and the baggage. Along with the camera being a lightweight, it gives great results too. You have the liberty to blow-up the images without any limit. There are some great 20 -30 inches prints from the F40.
Besides the look, which is great and awesome, you will find the screen to be very fantastic. It is a big, sharp, bright, contrast and three-dimensional LGD screen that one has experienced. The resolutions are higher and therefore they are actually very sharp images. The Nikon d40 comes with great photo quality, minimal lens distortion, pleasing colors, low-noise images and excellent metering and exposure. The Nikon digital camera comes with 6 million pixels. The dslr camera is a great combination with the new AF-S 18-55 mm f3.5-5.6 GII ED lens.
You can also set the ultra compact SB-400 flash on top and have a great set with you. There is an instruction guide built in the camera. On pressing ‘HELP' button and you get help with the settings and the functions. This 2.5 inch screen compact digital camera is a good value camera. The Nikon digital camera price is incredibly affordable and makes a great option for the budget-conscious people who also want to own a professional level camera.
The Nikon d40 price is Rs 20,000 approximately and comes with 10-megapixel sensor and with the right price-tag becomes a very competitive product in the market. The battery life is a great thing, you can take 900 shots at one charge of battery, and long shutter shots might slow it down. It is very convenient to plug it in the netbook and start shooting. The Nikon DSLR camera comes in an all-plastic body and a dinky 18-55mm kit lens.
The Nikon DSLR camera price is worth it as you get much more than you expect. The other specifications are the 3F color matrix metering II, 420 pixel sensors, the ISO sensitivity range 200-1600 plus HI 1, custom auto ISO (selectable maximum ISO, minimum shutter speed). There is also the 2.5 fps continuous shooting and unlimited in JPEG. There is a large 2.5" 230,000 pixel LCD monitor - All in all a great camera for the price.
